CRN Portable Transmitter

The CRN Portable Transmitter is a personal security device for individuals who may find themselves in compromising situations. Guards, judicial officers, couriers and others are able to transmit a distress signal to their headquarters in the time it takes to blink an eye.

At approximately 2.875"W X 6.25"H X 1.625"D in overall size (excluding top-mounted rubber duck antenna) and weighing under 1 pound, the CRN Portable Transmitter is easily hand-held or can be worn on a belt in an optional holster.

The unit can be programmed to send a supervisory signal at routine intervals (from every ten minutes to every 11 hours, with 7 selections) for check in at a central location. Failure to receive a supervisory signal when expected alerts the headquarters that the remote unit is out of range or in trouble.

Distress signals are transmitted by pressing a large protected momentary reed switch on the top of the unit. An LED provides visual verification of all transmissions to the user. The CRN Blink-of-an- Eye data encryption technique used provides reliable communication with a short 100MSEC data burst.

Internal rechargeable nicad batteries are sufficient to power the portable unit for 25 hours with one supervisory transmission every 10 minutes (150 total transmissions) and 5 panic alarms consisting of 5 transmissions each (25 total transmissions) and still have 25% battery reserve available (50 transmissions available). Recharging takes about 3 hours. Battery voltage is constantly monitored and a low battery signal is sent whenever battery voltage drops below a safe level.

An optional "man-down" feature utilizes two motion sensors to ensure the well-being of the user. Motion sensing, rather than position sensing, is recognized by the NFPA and fire fighting organizations as the prefered method of monitoring the status of personnel. If motion of the user ceases for a period of time (programmable from 10 seconds to 2 minutes, in 10 second intervals) the unit emits a loud peircing tone to alert the user that a man-down signal will be transmitted in 5 seconds unless aborted by pressing the top mounted momentary switch. This option may be used for individuals who work alone and/or work in situations where a potential for serious injury exists.
